It's been a great year for those of us who promote the use of Design Thinking. Change-makers in large organizations, you now have examples and frameworks to make & support business cases.
And now MURAL promoters have a framework to measure the impact of working digitally to help global teams embrace Design Thinking and Agile.
In last week's webinar, we invited Joni Saylor - who leads IBM's Design Thinking global practice, and Dean Davison - the Forrester consultant who analyzed IBM's global deployment of MURAL, to explain the payoff of IBM's early investment in "virtual studios" and how MURAL enabled and accelerated the use of Design Thinking for IBM's global teams, reduced costs of travel, and improved productivity.
Joni shared IBM's story at a high level and reminded us of the huge scale they are working with (and reminded those who want to go deeper to review past webinars with IBMers: Best Practices on Remote Facilitation, Bridging Design Thinking and Agile using User Story Mapping).
She also announced their own Forrester led analysis showing that the ROI of Design Thinking was around 301% based on their analysis.

Dean took the mic and shared the method he used with Forrester Research to assess The Total Economic Impact of MURAL - including calculations and financial results.
His research determined the following three-year impact based on IBM's feedback and quantified benefit, cost, risk and flexibility factors:
